Writing Letters
Over the last few weeks we have been working on writing letters. We have written letters to the characters of stories we have read and to Frosty the Snowman. Today we each wrote a letter to Mr. and Mrs. Adams for allowing us to visit their Christmas village and for giving us a cookie for a snack.
The Christmas Village
Yesterday we walked downtown so that Mr. and Mrs. Adams could show us their amazing Christmas village display. We heard stories about many of the buildings within the village. We were also treated to cookies ~ yum! Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Adams for allowing us to visit.

"Gifts"
Today your child brought home the book "GIFTS" by JoEllen Bogart and Barbara Reid. This is compliments of the Ministry of Education, The Canadian Children's Book Centre, and The TD Bank Financial Group.
The students are HUGE fans of Barbara Reid, as her work with plasticine is amazing. We read the story in class and the students absolutely loved it. I encourage you to read it with them again (and again, and again) over the holidays.
Thanks!

Home Reading
I will not be sending home reading to do over Christmas holidays. I do need all of the reading packages returned as soon as possible, so that we can have them prepared for the new year.
Thank you!
Thank you!

Watching the Christmas Concert Online
Live Christmas Concert 2011
Click on this link to watch the Coronach Elementary School Christmas Concert LIVE at 7:00pm tonight. The link will only work once we start broadcasting, so don't panic if you click on it earlier, and nothing appears. Pass this link on to friends and family who can't attend the performance tonight.
P.S. A special thank you should be made to Cathy Hiltz and Terry Sand for organizing the Livestream feed.

This week
In an effort to maintain my sanity this week, there will be no spelling words AND no home reading going home over Christmas holidays.
This is my gift to you... haha

More Christmas Concert Information
With the concert 48 hours away (yikes!), here is what I need to share with you.
1. Tool belts and hockey jerseys can be brought to school Tuesday or Wednesday, as we will be using them for rehearsals.
2. Students should be in the classroom on Wednesday night between 6:30pm and 6:40pm. When the concert is done, your child can be picked up from our classroom.
3. Our concert will be livestreamed to "the world" on that night, which means you can watch it online if you are unable to attend. More information will follow on the blog, as I am not exactly sure how it will work yet... haha

Star of the Week ~ Carter B.
This week our star was Carter B. He loves hockey and Transformers. Carter's favourite movie is Home Alone, and his favourite food is cheeseburgers and hot dogs. He also loves to play mini-sticks with his brothers. Carter brought cupcakes to share with the class and they were delicious! Thanks for sharing Carter!

Grade 1 Math
We have started working on the concepts of more and less in Math, which is the introduction to adding and subtracting. Today we played this game, which is perfect for helping us master these concepts. The link is below, and also listed in Learning Links menu on the blog.

Christmas Dinner ~ Potato Cookers
Hi Potato Cookers,
I know most of you are able to do the potatoes for Christmas Dinner, but Giselle Wilson will be at home cooking a turkey and has an offer for you if you are stuck. If you can peel and cut the potatoes she has four burners to cook them for you. The first four callers can ask for help at 267-4909.
Thanks,
Donna Dyck

Star of the Week ~ Tyler
Last week our star was Tyler. Even though he was sick, we still learned many things about him. His favourite food is bacon, soy sauce and rice. Tyler's favourite place to be is home. He has many pets, including a dog, lots of cats, and even ducks! Thank you for sharing Tyler!

Book Orders
I have a few "unclaimed" books from the last book order (wink wink). Anyone wishing to pick up books can visit the school at their convenience. Thanks!
Christmas Dinner
Families have been assigned item(s) to bring for Christmas Dinner on Wednesday, December 21st. There will be a letter (neon pink) in your child's backpack on Thursday. Thank you for your support.
Christmas Concert
We have been asked to wear a hockey jersey for the first song of the night. Any team will do, and many students have multiple jerseys, so please ask around if you do not have one.
Song lyrics are given below in case your child is singing at home.
Elves Production Line
No one makes toys better, and no one can compete
With Santa's elves production line, our work is always neat.
We hammer, bolt, and screw and nail from dawn to dusk each day.
Nothing ever slows us down, or gets in these elves way.
We're tough, we're smart, we're capable, we do the best we can
Santa's elves production line, the best in all the land.
When deadlines come it's overtime, but we don't to rest.
We turn out toys in record time because we are the best!
No one makes toys better, and no one can compete
With Santa's elves production line, our work is always neat.
We hammer, bolt, and screw and nail from dawn to dusk each day.
Nothing ever slows us down, or gets in these elves way.
Please Mr. Santa
Please Mr. Santa, go back to work,
And make the toys for Christmas Day
Please Mr. Santa, go back to work,
You're too old to play!
We all promise to be real good,
And do the chores we know we should.
We'll do our homework, we'll skip TV.
Please end our misery!
Please Mr. Santa, go back to work,
And make the toys for Christmas Day
Please Mr. Santa, go back to work,
You're too old to play!
Please Mr. Santa.
Please Mr. Santa.
Please Mr. Santa.
Make the toys today.

Christmas Gift Exchange
This year, rather than doing a gift exchange we will be collecting money to donate to the Humane Society. Along with the Grade 3 and 4 class, we will collect donations in lieu of a student gift exchange. We encourage you to donate what would normally be spent on a classroom exchange gift (between $5 to $10), although any donation will be accepted.
Thank you again for your support!
