Thank You Palliser Library!

We would like to thank the Coronach Palliser library for sponsoring the guest speaker on Wednesday.  We heard stories that have been passed down from families who are members of the Bear Clan.  We learned about animals and what each animal can teach us and heard a wonderful story about how even the smallest of animals has something to contribute.

Thank you again to the local library for sponsoring such a great event for us!

Pink Day

A special thank you to Michelle and Terry Sand who coordinated an anti-bullying project for the school to participate in.  Each student was given a square piece to place on the mosaic to create a beautiful display that now hangs in our front entrance.  Thanks Terry and Michelle!

The Titanic

As we study the properties of floating and sinking many students have shown an interest in the Titanic.  We spent some time today learning about the Titanic, the passengers and the reasons why it sank.  We put some of that information into our blog posts today and you can find them here:

Thank you in advance for looking and commenting ~ the students (and the teachers) greatly appreciate it!

Health Center Visit

This week a group of students visited the Coronach Health Center to visit with some of the residents.  We asked many questions about what things were like when they were young.  After our visit we read to them and ended our visit with juice and cookies!
We plan to use what we learned from them in our 100th Day of School blog posts and writing projects to stay tuned!

Thank you to the Health Center for hosting us!

Float and Sink Experiments

On Friday we tested our boats and how well they can carry a load of blocks.  After making a prediction,  we strategically placed blocks in our boats to see how many it would carry.  Stay tuned for student blog posts at https://kidblog.org/class/MrsElder/posts  but here is a preview...

Math Game

Please look into this Math game, which asks the player to make different combinations of 10.  Both Grade One and Two classes work on this concept and this FREE app is a wonderful way to practice.  Look for it in the App Store

Please also look at Sheppard Games which is a variety of Math games that the students use at school.  The game we are asking the students to work on right now is called Math Lines.  Please follow the link to see this game: Math Lines

These are concepts that are used for years to come and we greatly appreciate any extra time you can devote to this.

Liquids and Solids

Mother Nature is helping us with many of our Science outcomes over the last few weeks.  As we experimented with changing liquids to solids by freezing, she has decided to show us the reverse process ~ melting.

We aren't complaining about the warm January weather but it sure does change what our project looks like...

100th Day of School

Our 100th Day of School is approaching and here is some of what we have planned for that day.  We are asking families to helps us celebrate in 2 ways:

1) Students will be asked to dress as 100 year old people, perhaps wearing glasses, using a cane, etc.  We will discuss this at school and try to give your child as many ideas and options as possible.  I have added a few pictures to help give you a few ideas.

2) Students are asked to bring 100 items for snack that day.  This means snack will look different as many items won't work. Bringing 100 carrots doesn't make sense but you can cut carrots into 100 small pieces so that it works for our activity. Items such as cereal (Cheerios, Fruit Loops, etc) and raisins also work well.  We also encourage a combination of items that create 100 ~ cheese, crackers, cereal, AND grapes for example.
