Today during Science, we read the book "Picture a Tree" by Barbara Reid. This book helps us understand that there are many ways to see trees. We read this book, and shared our connections with each other ~ this book reminds me of, she made this page for me because...
Here is a small video clip showing a few parts of the book.
Picture a Tree
The illustrations are made from plasticine and are absolutely amazing! Ask your child what page was made for them, and then discuss why. Here is a video clip showing the process of creating these pages!

Chili and a Bun Fundraiser
The Coronach Kinettes will be hosting a Chili and a Bun on Tuesday, May 7th. All proceeds will go to Stu and Bev Adams to assist with Stu's ongoing cancer treatments. Bev has been an integral part of our Guided Reading program in the school the last few years, so I encourage you all to participate in this event. If your child does not like chili, I can collect a donation if you prefer that option.
Please return forms back to school by Thursday, May 2nd. Thank you in advance for your support!

Grade 1 Math
How many are hiding? How many are missing? How many more do I need to make the number __? These are a few of the questions we answered today while in Math. We are working on subtraction strategies so today we took turns "hiding" dominoes from our partner, and then telling how many were missing. We had to tell how we knew what was hidden ~ "I know you covered up 3 because there used to be 5, and now there is only 2, and 3 and 2 make 5." Feel free to work on this strategy by playing the same type of game at home ~ increase the numbers as your child becomes more confident in the strategy.

Reading with your Child
A student recorded me reading with another student today. This is an example of how you can read with your child at home, sharing the responsibility with them. If they read the words they know, and you "fill in the blanks", it builds confidence in your child.

School Parking Lot and Bus Lanes
Please read the following post from Mrs. Hiltz in regards to the bus lanes at the school.
Mrs. Hiltz's Blog
It is my understanding that this includes picking up/dropping off students in the morning, at noon, after school, etc. To avoid a ticket, please pick up and drop off your children using 1st Avenue West (the street running East and West) in front of the school, and not the parking lot/bus lane.
Thank you for your cooperation!

Adopt a Book ~ Palliser Library
The Palliser Library will have their Adopt a Book program at the Coronach Trade Fair on Friday, April 19th. Giselle Wilson has ordered some books through our classroom Scholastic account, and these books will be up for adoption. The order from Giselle allowed our classroom to receive new books for Spring AND we donated books to be adopted. Thank you very much Giselle!
Please help support the local Palliser library, and stop by to adopt a book!
