Spring has Sprung!

We are all very excited that Spring has finally arrived! Our lockers seem empty now that our Winter clothes are gone.

With the warmer weather comes sandals, flip flops, and open toed shoes.  If your child is wearing shoes like this to school, please send a pair of socks in their backpack.  Their inside/gym runners need to have socks worn with them or our classroom takes on an interesting aroma.

Thanks in advance for your support, and Happy Spring!

Grade Two Goals for June Report Card

I am challenging the Grade Two class this term to work extra hard on their writing skills.  We have been working on writing stories and I can see great improvements in the last few weeks.  I am encouraging all of them to work on punctuation within their writing and to start experimenting with dialogue.

Of course we will work on this within the classroom but I would encourage you to work on this at home as well.  Discuss what is being read at home and look at examples of conversations in their books.  Remind them of the elements that are in every story (setting, characters, problem, solution, beginning/middle/end) and discuss them in terms of what you are reading.

Thank you again for your continued support, and I look forward to seeing what our authors create over the next few weeks!

Grade One Goals for June Report Card

I have set a big goal for the Grade One students to achieve before the end of June!!

I would like the students to work through all four buckets of words rings, which will work out to over 500 sight words.  This is a goal that can be done, as many of them are already half way there.

This will take work and commitment form parents as well, and I encourage you to work on the words rings each night.  These are the most common words found in the books your child is reading, and knowing them will help increase their fluency and confidence.

Thank you for your continued support!

Missoula Theatre

Rehearsals are underway and the students are very excited for the Missoula Theatre production!

We hope to see everyone at the school on Friday for the 1:30 AND the 7:00 production of "Rapunzel".  Both performances are open to the public so tell your friends, relatives, your neighbors about the show times!

Home Reading

You will notice that the look of Home Reading has changed a bit this week.  From now on, the students will be bringing Coronach School Library books home each week to use for their reading practice and their homework lessons.

The structure of Home Reading remains the same ~ it will still come back to school on Wednesday, new books will go home on Wednesday, and the homework lesson is still expected to be done and returned.

Thank you again for the continued support and for reading at home with your child!

St. Patrick's Day

The SRC will be holding a bake sale on Tuesday, March 17th and each item will cost $1.  We would also like to encourage everyone to wear green to school on Tuesday.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Persephone Theatre Performance

Thursday afternoon we were treated to a fantastic performance by Persephone Theatre from Saskatoon.  The performance focused on how two characters had conflict because they communicated in different languages. By the end of the performance the characters realized that working together gave them the best results and a friendship was created.

Here are a few pictures from Thursday's performance!

Random Act of Kindness

On Tuesday we had a visit from Miss Rachul and her Grade 12 class.  They brought us cookies, and challenged us to do another "Random Act of Kindness" within the school.  Our class, after much discussion and a vote, decided that we would read to the Preschool group and take them a trail mix for snack.

Thursday morning we made our baggies of trail mix and headed down to the Daycare with our books.  Here are a few pictures of our morning.

Story Writing

We have been working very hard on writing stories that contain a clear beginning, middle, and ending.  Today the students were given a picture and then they blogged their story to share with all of you!

Enjoy, and happy reading!

Missoula Children's Theatre

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The audition for the Missoula Children's Theatre production of Rapunzel will be held on Monday, March 16th at 9:30am at the Coronach School Gym. There are roles for all students Kindergarten through Grade 12. Approximately 50-60 local students will be cast to appear in the show with the MCT Tour Actor/Director. There is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast in the play. Students wishing to audition must arrive by the scheduled starting time and stay for the entire two-hour session.

This is a group audition–no advance preparation is necessary, but a smile J never hurts. Students should just be ready to come and have a good time!

Rehearsals will be conducted every day of the week (March 16th – March 19th) from 3:00pm to 5:00pm and 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Although not all cast members will be needed at every session, those auditioning must have a clear schedule for the entire week and if selected, be able to attend all rehearsals required for their role. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be distributed at the conclusion of the audition. Cast members scheduled for the full 4½ hours of rehearsal will be asked to bring a sack lunch, dinner or snack.

The performances will be held on Friday, March 20th at 1:30pm and again at 7:00pm and both performances are open to the public!  The students in the cast will be called for dress rehearsal before the performance that day. All those cast must be available for all scheduled performances.

The Missoula Children's Theatre is a non-profit organization based in Missoula, Montana. This coming year more than 65,000 cast members across the globe will take to the stage to the delight and applause of their families, friends, community, neighbors and teachers!

For any questions please contact the school at (306) 267-2210.
