This weather...

Just a quick post to complain about the weather!

The home reading has fallen victim to the weather, as our normal Wednesday routine has vanished because of no buses and "snow days".  I will do my best to regain the routine as soon as possible but with so many kids not at school, this becomes difficult.

Our photography job in the classroom has also lacked consistency as many of the "picture-takers" are absent on their day.  The blog in turn has suffered with minimal posts the last few weeks.

My apologies for things falling apart the last few weeks ~ we will get back on track, when the snow disappears... haha

Star of the Week ~ Braden

This week our star is Braden.  He loves Lego Ninjago and the movie "Cars".  His favourite food is pizza and hot dogs.  Braden loves visiting Fishing Lake, riding his bike, boating, and playing hockey.  Thanks for sharing with us Braden!

School Cookbook

The SRC has decided to make a cookbook filled with student’s and staff’s favorite recipes as a fundraiser.  We need your help!  We would like each student to submit at least 2 of their favorite recipes for our collection.  You can email us your recipes at Rachul.ashley@prairiesouth.ca

If you are stumped, we have some sample categories that may help you out…

Animals and their Senses

Today we finished up our study of animals and their senses.  Students had to show me what they have learned about animals and their senses.  They could use words, pictures or both to show me what they know.  Here are a few examples:

Doubles Addition

Grade 1 and 2 Math uses the strategy of recognizing doubles to help in addition. The following game helps students practice doubles from 1-6.  There are options to include a timer and also to change it from doubles to general addition facts to 12.  Enjoy!

Reminders for this Week

1) There is no school for students on Friday. Enjoy the long weekend!
2)  Students are going skating on Wednesday morning, period one and two, for gym. The Grade 9 and 10 class is also going with them, so no extra help is needed.
3)  Due to the already short week (no school Friday) and the snow day yesterday, there will be no spelling words this week.
4) Please remember to return Home Reading packages on Wednesday mornings so that they can be exchanged for a new one.

40 balloons for me!

A big thank you to my students, and their parents, for making my 40th birthday so very special.  I was overwhelmed by the kindness you have shown me!  The balloons, cake, cupcakes, gifts, and all of the hugs made my day extra special.  I am very grateful for such great students and supportive parents ~ thank you again!

Star of the Week ~ Savannah

Last week our star was Savannah.  Her favourite movie is "Santa Paws" and her favourite book is "LaLaLoopsy Halloween Surprise".  Savannah loves to dance, do crafts, and attend Sparks.  Her favourite food is strawberries with sugar sprinkled on top.  Savannah's Mom came to read to us and also brought brownies for a snack.  Thanks so much!
