Surface Area, Spatial Awareness and Cooperation

We have been busy studying shapes and how to combine shapes to create new ones.  Pattern blocks are being used to help cover and create animal shapes.  Today we added another element to our building skills ~ cooperation. Today they worked in partners and had to share ideas and discoveries with their partner.  They also had to decide how to handle a difference of opinion AND they did great!  Here are a few pictures!

Eagle Cam

As many of you remember, our original eagle's nest that we were observing came to an end after a fierce winter storm and the disappearance of an adult eagle.  We searched for a new nest to observe and have been watching this nest for a few weeks.

The eaglets are adroable, growing fast and teaching us so much about life cycles and adaptations for survival.  You can have a look here:

Shrek The Musical

We are SO excited to be heading to Shrek The Musical on Wednesday!  Just a few reminders about the day:

1) We must leave the school by 8:00am.  Please have your child at the school by 7:45 and have them go to their classroom to check in.
2) We ask that you send snacks, drinks, and a lunch for the entire day.  There is something about a field trip that increases a child's appetite... haha
3) Please pack bus appropriate snacks and lunches.  Minimal garbage and things that can't spill are encouraged.
4) We have encouraged the students to pack things to do during the bus ride.  We discussed books, paper, crayons, colouring books, cards, etc are great things to bring.  We have also decided that no electronics will be allowed on the bus during the trip.

Our plan is to be back in Coronach at 3:30 however that is dependent on show times and how quickly we can leave the city.  I will send a Remind message as we leave the city so please watch for that.  Our hope is to be back in time for the buses to take students home, but we ask that you have a possible plan in place in case this does not happen.

We are all very excited to see the show and I have read great reviews already! Thanks so much for helping us make this trip go smoothly!

Book Orders for May

Today your child is bringing home book order catalogs for May.  For anyone interested in ordering, please return the order form and payment on Wednesday, May 16th.

Thank you in advance for your order and happy reading!

Transplanting our Sunflowers

Today we moved our sunflower plants outside into the "Real World".
We discussed how to space them out, and how plants will often go into shock when they are moved.
We gave them a big drink of water and will continue to check on them daily!

There is also a perennial Milkweed plant in the front garden so finders crossed it attracts some Monarch butterflies this year!

Coronach

Today we took advantage of the beautiful weather and walked to our Tourist Booth.  We studied the history of our town and how it was named.  We also took jot notes so that we can write full sentences next week.
