Christmas Reading Bingo

Every student at Coronach School will be bringing home a Christmas Reading Bingo, created by the School Community Council, as a way to keep our students active readers over the holidays. There is an Elementary version (Pre-K-Grade 6) and High School version (Grade 7-12).

Please help your child work on their bingo and have them return it to their homeroom teacher on January 3 (January 4 for Pre-K) to be entered to win some prizes!

Thank you in advance! Have a wonderful break and happy reading!!

Cards, WAR, and Math

For the last few days we have been working on our card skills and using the cards to help us with our Math.  Once we practiced shuffling and dealing (this was interesting with such little hands) we then started playing the game of WAR.  This reinforces many number sense outcomes of our curriculum AND it's a perfect game to play over the holidays!  Enjoy!

This is how you look after beating your teacher at WAR in
less than 5 minutes...

Game 2 didn't have the same results... haha

Christmas Reading

Today we visited the library for the last time in 2017.
As we discussed reading over the Christmas break, the students decided that 5 books over the holidays was not enough practice.

We talked about reading one book a night BUT we also discussed being busy over Christmas.  The students chose to document at least 10 books in their Reading Journals over Christmas holidays.  Mrs. Sand helped us by allowing us to take even more books out of the library this week.

Enjoy your Christmas holidays and happy reading!

The Parts of a Number

For the last week we have been breaking up numbers into part-part-whole.  This is another introduction to adding (just like Hungry Fish) and looks like this:

Pancake Breakfast

Monday morning is PJ day AND we also got treated to a Pancake breakfast!
Pajamas and Pancakes to start the week ~ YAY!

Christmas Concert

A bit of info about Christmas concert:

We are not requesting any special outfits for the concert, and are asking that students dress up nicely for the evening.

The concert starts at 7, so students will meet in the classroom at around 6:30 to get organized and ready.

Students will spend the entire concert with myself and their classmates, and then can be picked up in the classroom after the concert ends.

Thanks and see you tomorrow evening!

Math "Homework"

As we continue to work on Number Sense in Math, our focus has turned to ways that numbers can be arranged.  We have been breaking numbers into parts ~ this is often referred to as Part-Part-Whole or Number Bonds.

We have been working with an app called "
Motion Math: Hungry Fish" which works perfectly to reinforce this concept.

Blog Posts

Today we blogged about Winter and the 5 senses. Perfect timing as the snow has been falling all last night and today!

Remember that as we learn to blog we are also doing our best to use our writing skills (proper use of capital letter, spaces and punctuation)

Thanks for having a look, and feel free to share with family and friends!

Word Work

Each day your child works on words that are relevant to them.  These words are used in their reading and writing, so we work on them frequently. To encourage a faster turnaround of words, I'm going to send your child's Word Work home in a Remind message.

Please work on these words at home, and I will continue to work and test these words at school.
Thanks!
