Show and Tell Schedule

The practice of show and tell in the classroom allows for many learning opportunities ~ speaking, listening, questioning techniques, answering appropriately, and the sharing of interesting items from a student's life.  We will have show and tell for approximately one week each month.  Your child will share on their designated helper day ~ so if your child is a Wednesday helper, they will have show and tell on Wednesday of show and tell week.

Please help prepare your child for their time to share ~ talk about where they got the item, why it is special, and any other relevant details.  Students in the class will ask your child about what they bring, so having details and answers prepared is helpful.

Show and Tell will occur during the following weeks:
September 23rd-27th
October 21st-25th
November 25th-29th
January 20th-24th
February 24th-28th
March 17th-21st
April 28th-May2nd
May 26th-30th
June 16th-20th

Daily Helpers

Each day in our classroom we have helpers.  Your child will be assigned a day, and their job will rotate on a weekly basis.  Their jobs are things such as Smartboard, Calendar, Weather, Fishbowl, Photographer, and Line Leader/General Helper.

The weekly schedule is as follows:
Monday: Savannah, Braden, Ayden, Jordan, Jaycee
Tuesday: Cheyanne, Maia, Langston, Cody M, Kyler
Wednesday: Kaden, Kade, Dayton, Shelby, Blake, Alera
Thursday: Cody N, Hayden, Sierra, Johnathan, Teagan
Friday: Dashiel, Autumn, Spencer, Nathan, Maci-Rae

Daily Snack

Each morning we will have a small snack at about 10:30 (depending on schedules).  When sending a snack from home please be aware of  the following things:

1) We encourage you to send healthy and nutritious snacks with your child each day.
2)  Please be aware that we will have about 10 minutes to have snack.  Please send your child something that they can eat within this time frame.
3) Make sure that your child can open/close the container that is sent.
4)  Microwave use will not be allowed during snack time.
5)  Although our school does have a snack program, please do not assume that there is a snack provided each day.  Depending on schedules and funding, snack may not be available.  This program should be seen as a supplement to a snack that is already sent, and not as a guarantee each day.

Thanks!

Family Emails

Much of my communication to parents is done with email.  Unless it is an immediate emergency, I will usually send an email to ask questions, communicate concerns, send reminders, etc.

If you would please send me an email at the address shown below so that I can have your email address on my computer, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Classroom Twitter Account

This year I want to start using Twitter with the students in the form of a classroom account. It gives us a wonderful opportunity to communicate and learn from other classrooms and people around the world.

If you are already on Twitter, please follow our classroom @mrseldersclass

We encourage you to follow us and to reply to our tweets, but please don't be offended if we don't follow you back. As an elementary classroom we will mostly be following other classrooms from around the world.

Welcome Back!

Well it's that time again ~ Back to School!

I hope that everyone had an enjoyable summer and got a chance to relax.  I challenged my Grade 1 and 2 students last June to go out of their comfort zone during the summer and WOW did they ever!  I have heard from many of my students on how their summer has gone and what they have done that scared them a little bit.  I have watched students dive off the high diving board and also talked to students who spent a whole week away from parents at camp!  Students learned to ride bikes, tried new foods, and even started sleeping without nightlights!  I know that there are many more things that were accomplished, and I look forward to hearing about them as your children return to school.

This will once again be my main avenue of communication this year, so make sure you check back often (usually daily) to see what's happening in our classroom.  I will start to update the blog with information in regards to classroom routines, schedules, and other information for the beginning of the year.  Please share this link with anyone who would be interested in seeing what is happening in our classroom!

Thanks for checking in, and welcome back to the 2013 school year!
