Salmon Viewing Activity

Today we worked on our viewing skills, with a focus on sounds.  We watched this video of salmon, swimming upstream and hoping to get by a group of bears.  Students were guided to listen for the sounds ~ the voice in the video, the music in the video, the background noises, etc.

A lengthy discussion about the music happened after we watched the video.  We decided that the music at the beginning was sad, slow and a bit like funeral music.  As the music gets faster, louder, and more exciting we decided that it matched when the salmon were getting past the bears.  We also decided that this music is from the perspective of the fish, and if the bears were in charge of the music it would be the opposite! What smart students I have!

Have a look at the video with your child, and have them explain what they see and what they hear!
Happy viewing!
